A1 – The Great North Road
Exelby Services origins go back to the 1940’s, when Ron Exelby opened a garage on the A1 at Londonderry, North Yorkshire. A number of long haul transport companies would use the A1, so he pioneered diesel bunkering. This facility allowed transport companies to store their own fuel at Londonderry Garage a for a small fee. Saving £££’s compared to pump prices.
North of England
Over the years the fuel and forecourt services expanded. These sites now include A1(M) Coneygarth, M6 Golden Fleece, M62 Whitwood and A19 Teesside. Coneygarth opened in 2014 which replaced the original Londonderry Garage site. Each of the sites were designed primarily for trucks but also have extensive retail facilities. Since 2013, we have proudly been a Shell dealer, offering a full range of Shell fuels and lubricants for all types of vehicles.
2021
During a difficult 2020, we continued to redevelop our sites. A19 North has been totally redeveloped and opened in November 2020 and features a full size Ferrari model suspended from the shop ceiling! Coneygarth now has a second lorry park, additional showers and toilets. Golden Fleece now has free wifi in the lorry park and a permanent hot food van. In 2021 we will continue to add facilities to our sites to ensure we offer the full range of services for haulage companies and their drivers.
